DEAR Friends,
This year the Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade Association celebrated 30
years of bringing the beloved “Festival of Lights Parade” to our community.
The annual theme, “A Child’s Holiday Fantasy,” is sure to delight children
of all ages as the parade winds its way through our downtown streets. Not
only do we continue to inaugurate new floats, new costumed characters and
new forms of entertainment, we promise the return of many old – and
treasured – favorites.
The Los Altos Festival of Lights Parade Association is a non-profit
501(c)(4) organization composed of community volunteers who work throughout
the year to make the parade a success. The volunteers recondition floats,
coordinate the entrants, wear and repair costumes and raise the funds to
present the Parade each year. Having no corporate sponsors we depend on
private donations, as well as two major fundraisers, “Rock Back The Clock”,
and the “Antique and Collectibles Faire”, to raise the $20,000 necessary to
stage this yearly event.
As we celebrate our 30th year, we are presented with a special challenge.
Many of our original floats have been around since the very beginning and as
you can imagine, are showing significant signs of age and disrepair. These
floats are in need of professional repair or replacement to retain their
place in the Parade. In addition, the magical costumes carefully sewn and
maintained by our volunteer costume makers are in need of refurbishment as
well. We urgently need additional donations to keep our floats maintained
and to buy the new material and lights that make our costumes so delightful.
Please help us continue this wonderful Los Altos tradition. We look forward
to seeing you at this year’s 31st Annual “Festival of Lights Parade” on
November 30th . It’s a Los Altos holiday tradition!
